Eye Patch
Hook Hand
Parrot
Maybe a monkey

Most of them are infact true. Many pirates would lose limbs in battle, however those were the ones later employed as cooks, and were not used in raids. Pirates DID keep useful pets on board, however a parrot or a monkey would be of no use to them. Pirates wore what was comforatble, not necissarilly what we picture them to wear though. Pirates believed that wearing a heavy gold earing would prevent see sickness. Although some wore them because in case they died, they gold would go towards buying a coffin.
